What is The California Center for Dignity, Social Inclusion & Stigma Elimination?

The new California Center for Dignity, Social Inclusion and Stigma Elimination (the Center), is a partnership of MHASF and major research institutions including the University of California Center for Reducing Health Disparities and the National Consortium on Stigma and Empowerment, is designed to advance significant social change in reducing the prejudice, shame, discrimination and stress associated with mental conditions and improving social inclusion of persons who suffer from mental illness.

The center is the first research, training and technical center focused on stigma reduction led by and staffed by people with lived experience of mental illness throughout. Leading partner consumer-run programs, including Peers Envisioning and Engaging Recovery Services and Project Return Peer Support Network work with local communities to empower consumers who live the story of recovery as the most effective agents for reduction of stigma and discrimination.
